Old Thomasville Collections
Many people collect vintage Thomasville Furniture. Others have ended up with inherited Thomasville Furniture and want to know more about the old Thomasville Collections.
Sometimes, you can spend hours researching a furniture company and still not know too much about the collections. Unless you worked at a Thomasville factory, you may not know exactly the name of the collection, what it was stylistically based on or who designed it.
So, you really can only depend on information found online, or old Thomasville catalogs for this information. We suggest purchasing old furniture catalogs online to try to find specific information on the pieces. Often, they are the best tools for finding specifics on any particular piece made by Thomasville.
Where to Buy Thomasville Furniture Today?
Thomasville Furniture can be found in many places today, as the name Thomasville is being used on furniture produced in various places around the world. In fact, some furniture with the name Thomasville has been spotted at stores like Value City Furniture and American City Furniture.
That said, many people who remember the old Thomasville bedroom furniture, dining room furniture and accent furniture feel that the “new” Thomasville does not come close to the quality of vintage Thomasville Furniture.
For that reason, we recommend looking at some used furniture stores in your area, or seeking out specific Thomasville pieces online.
Today, antique dealers and vintage furniture sellers still recognize the craftsmanship and style of vintage furniture. So, they may offer some great bargains on used Thomasville furniture.
If that is the route you choose to go on, you likely can find some very stylish French Country Furniture, regency or even Bamboo style furniture by the company.
How Much is Thomasville Furniture worth?
Thomasville Furniture has great name recognition. So, selling a piece of Thomasville at the right price shouldn’t be much of a challenge.
If your furniture is in tip top shape, you can expect several hundred to several thousand dollars for your used Thomasville furniture. However, it does depend on the style.
A very fine traditional Thomasville dresser can cost anywhere from $700 to $1500 in excellent condition.
1970s Thomasville dining room set can be sold as separate pieces, with a table and chairs usually costing around $600-$800. Likewise, a Thomasville china cabinet from that era can cost around $500 to $900.
However, a more modern and grand Thomasville china cabinet from the 1990s onwards can cost anywhere from $1000 to $200. Although, it must have working lights, mirrored back and be in excellent condition.
How do you Identify Thomasville Furniture?
Because of the variety of styles and finishes that the company produced over its long history, the most surefire way to identify Thomasville Furniture is by its stamp. Typically, you can find the Thomasville stamp on the inside right drawer. However, from time to time, you may see it on the back or bottom of a piece.
Over the course of its long history, the style and logo for Thomasville did change. Surprisingly, Thomasville usually did not include the collection name or finish information with the piece. So, for further key features, you may have to research an old catalog.
Thomasville Furniture Company: Is it any good?
In my opinion, the best period of Thomasville was before the year 2005. Like many American furniture companies, like Pennsylvania House and Harden Furniture, Thomasville struggled to compete with imported furniture that hit the market at a very low price point.
So, the highest quality furniture usually dates to before the mid-2000s. If you like traditional furniture (i.e. Colonial Style, French Country or English style), then I would suggest the 1980s through 1990s furniture made by Thomasville.
However, depending on your needs and budget, Thomasville Furniture that is made today still has a pretty good reputation. No doubt, furniture made with the Thomasville name today still has some great features and a certain level of quality. While most of it is not made in the United States, you can still find some beautiful pieces with the Thomasville name.
Additionally, you may be surprised that the price of new Thomasville remains pretty reasonable… Of course, this all depends on your budget and what you may be used to spending. So, make sure you shop around, do some price comparisons and take your time. After all, you most likely will keep your furniture for several years, so you will have to live with your decision!
