The company was well known for their dedication to reliable quality, skilled craftsmanship and their customer’s satisfaction, which is why we often suggest Vintage Pulaski Furniture. Often, people will ask us, is Pulaski Furniture good quality?

Is Pulaski Furniture Good Quality?

Pulaski Furniture continues to make better-than-average furniture. Most of their furniture catalog features furniture made mostly with real wood, so it’s a good bet that you can find some quality pieces by the company.

That said, we prefer Pulaski pieces from years past to the items stamped with the Pulaski logo today.

In the past, you could count on high quality American craftsmanship from Pulaski Furniture. Today, furniture marked with the Pulaski name no longer comes from Virginia exclusively. In fact, only a small portion of Pulaski Furniture is made in the United States. Therefore, we recommend Vintage Pulaski Furniture.

Pulaski Furniture Company History

The company was first founded in 1955 in a town called Pulaski, Virginia. When the company was first founded, the original business model was meant to produce dining room furniture exclusively. However, within a few years, the company began offering bedroom furniture as well due to a demand for bedroom furniture among their customer base.

pulaski furniture, good quality?

At first, Pulaksi’s furniture offered relatively inexpensive prices to its clientele base in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Of course, the designs were simple for the ease of manufacturing, and to maintain an affordable price point. However, in the mid 1960-1970’s, Pulaski developed a new look: the “Pulaski Look” which looked more expensive than it actually was! Business in the bedroom and dining room sectors took off.

By 1973, Pulaski built a new case goods plant in Dublin, Virginia that was twice the size of their original plant. In fact, at 550,000 square feet, it was one of the largest furniture plants in the country at the time.

Pulaski Keepsakes Furniture

In the 1970’s, Pulaksi hit on a huge success with the introduction of their “Keepsakes” line. The Pulaski Keepsakes Collection featured mostly oak furniture done in a Turn of the Century, Victorian style. This line eventually grew to 90+ pieces of Victorian inspired furniture, designed by Leonard Eisen.

The Pulaksi Keepsake Collection often features serpentine front drawers, sinuous designs and carved accents and even leaded glass. The collection was novel and yet not showy. In fact, it has a homey country flavor, despite it’s Victorian influence. During the 1970’s, Pulaski Keepsake Collection decorated the homes of thousands of Americans.

The success of this line allowed the company to expand into many types of accent furniture over the next few decades, especially Curio Cabinets. Also, Pulaksi acquired other great furniture companies, including Ridgeway Clock Company and eventually Craftique Furniture in the late 1980s.

In the 1990’s, like many American Furniture companies, like Pennsylvania House, efforts shifted to overseas partnerships. Indeed, new manufacturing possibilities in China and Asian companies sadly became the norm.
