Harden Furniture

New York State Furniture Company Harden Furniture sadly faced bankruptcy in 2018 and came under new ownership. Like many vintage furniture companies, competition with Asian manufacturers and less of a consumer demand for fine furniture made things difficult for this long time furniture company.

Harden Furniture made beautiful cherry furniture with native New York woods for many years before their closing. In fact, they are one of the oldest Vintage Furniture Makers we feature here, opening in 1844.

Of course, luckily we can still enjoy the beautiful vintage furniture made by Harden Furniture company today.

Many fine furniture dealers and antique dealers love Harden Furniture for their beautiful finishes and adaptations of Colonial designs. Consumers in America love solid wood furniture, and there is certainly a great degree of pride when you can purchase something so beautiful that was made here at home.

Vintage Harden Furniture

Expect to see traditional designs take the majority of the listings available here by Harden Furniture. In many ways, 18th Century adaptations were Harden’s strong suit. They made incredible cherry poster beds, lovely cherry high boy dressers and beautiful Queen Anne dining room sets. These designs also had staying power. Of course, traditional designs typically need little alterations to stay fresh.

The classics by Harden Furniture speak of timelessness and elegance. While not every company was able to stick to one signature style, Harden Furniture did have quite a few Golden Years in producing classic styles with little deviation.

Today, if you love cherry furniture, consider investing in vintage Harden Furniture. Their beautiful finishes look very refined. Unlike some lower end furniture brands, the finish by Harden never looked plastic-like or overly glossy. Of course, this likely was due to their long finishing process, which was applied by hand.

Instead, the Harden Company offered a toned down brown cherry and a more classic rich red finish.

Harden Upholstered Furniture

Also, I should mention that Harden made some incredible upholstered furniture over the years as well. You may find some beautiful Harden camel back sofas, rolled arm sofas, and lovely high back chairs by Harden fill these pages from time to time.

In my experience, Harden made incredible solid wood upholstered furniture. While not cheap, Harden sofas were always made with great frames and beautiful high end fabrics and foam. I would recommend a vintage sofa by Harden over nearly any modern upholstery company. And if you don’t like the fabric, consider investing in new upholstery to make your Harden sofa or Harden Wingback chair even more tailored to your taste.

Harden Furniture Values

Of course, because Harden is considered a fine furniture company, expect to pay hundreds to thousands for gently used Harden Fine Furniture.

On the high end furniture market, a Harden cherry dining table can sell for between $500 and $1500. Of course, special tables that have a lot of leaves or inlay can cost well over $2000.

No doubt, you will find Harden prices to be slightly higher than Ethan Allen Furniture. However, Harden Company Furniture tends to be Less pricey than Baker Furniture and Kittinger Furniture on the used market.

Finally, if you are lucky enough to find an entire Harden bedroom set or Harden dining room set, in excellent condition, you likely will pay around $2000 to $4000.

used harden furniture

Of course, there may be a lucky find here or there in a thrift shop or Harden furniture craigslist. But mostly, vintage furniture sellers will know they have a quality piece. So, it is rare to get an extremely good deal on used Harden Furniture.
