Today, much of the confusion around Dixie Furniture lies in the fact that there is a retail store that goes by the name Dixie Furniture. Of course, this store made South Carolina its home. However, the Dixie Manufacturing company no longer produces furniture.

Vintage Dixie Furniture
Since you can no longer purchase Dixie Furniture from the original company, many people love vintage furniture by Dixie. Indeed, they produced unique styles of dining, bedroom and accent furniture for many years.
Also, you may have an association with the company, if you or a family member worked there back in the day. Before the name was absorbed by Lexington Furniture, Dixie employed thousands of people in their manufacturing centers.
Sadly, many of these jobs disappeared over the decades, as much of the furniture trade went overseas. However, for a long period, Dixie Company Furniture produced great, quality furniture for the American market. Additionally, the company provided long term steady and decent employment to many people.
So, if you find a piece of furniture marked “Dixie” in the drawers, you can rest assured that the piece came from the United States. If you intend to purchase quality furniture that was made by American workers, you can look for the Dixie marks in the drawers, on the back of china cabinet or on the underside of a table.
Common Dixie Company Furniture Styles
Commonly, Dixie items found on the used furniture market, usually is in a few different styles. Primarily, you may find French Provincial Dixie Furniture.
French Provincial style furniture by Dixie can have serpentine style drawers, ornate hardware and either a painted or wood finish. Indeed, today, many people restyle vintage Dixie French furniture, either by repainting or refinishing. Of course, this style is popular amongst the Shabby Chic crowd.
Additionally, you may find Mid Century Modern Furniture by Dixie. Of course, this type of furniture usually has a low profile, post or peg legs and has a walnut finish. Indeed, today, this style of furniture has a big following. So, you can expect to pay several hundred to over one thousand dollars for Mid Century Modern Dixie furniture.

While you may find Dixie Furniture can keep its value, even years later, much of this relies on the condition. Of course, if you keep your vintage furniture in pristine condition, you can recoup much of the value when you go to sell it.
Additionally, if you have the skills, consider refinishing vintage pieces by Dixie. Many people prefer to have a refurbished piece over a piece with a damaged finish. Additionally, you should always repair broken parts or dysfunctional drawers. Obviously, sticky drawers, bad hinges or broken hardware no doubt stop a sale in its tracks. Furthermore, these small issues are fairly easy to repair. So, take your time to bring the vintage Dixie piece back to working order before you go to sell it.
